Friday Morning Coffee Hour With Tim Hwang

As you may or may not know, most Friday mornings we have a coffee hour here at MailChimp HQ. It gives us a chance to get together, chat and learn something new.

This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming Tim Hwang, Chief Scientist of the Pacific Social Architecting Corporation. (You may also know him as the Co-Founder of ROFLCon and The Awesome Foundation.)

In addition to being both charming AND handsome, Tim is a really interesting guy. He spoke about, "some recent research into the use of swarms of realistic-looking bot identities on social platforms to invisibly shape the behavior and patterns of relationships of large communities of users online." Whew, that was a mouthful. Essentially, he and his partners at the Pacific Social Architecting Corporation are interested in learning how bots can infiltrate, interact with and influence social network dynamics.

It was a lot to take in so early in the morning, but well worth it. You can read more about Tim's research here and here.

This Freddie Birthday Cake Is Amazing!

(download)
We just wanted to say thanks to Jason and the team at This Week In Startups for sending us such a fantastic 10th birthday cake. Pics or it didn't happen, right?

Not only is cake-Freddie magically delicious, it's very much true to life. I mean, there's even hair in his ears! Major props to Highland Bakery in Atlanta for their masterful creative skillz.

Paintball Sentry Gun

After reading about our Nerf Gun Turret, you probably think we're a bunch of crazy, weapons obsessed chimps. I can assure you that we're not, but we do like to have a good time.

MailChimp's Creative Director Ron sez, "This project is payback for dropping a sentry gun in the middle of the support group and shooting them for a couple of weeks. The goal is to put it on Ben's desk and with the proper safety attire he'll have to disarm it."

If the test videos are any indication, this is gonna be great!

Coffee Talk

Coffeetalk
Every Friday morning MailChimp gets together for a coffee hour. It's not super formal, but usually involves learning something new-- from MailChimp staff, a special guest, or anyone who has something interesting to teach.

This morning we were joined by Jason Dominy of Batdorf & Bronson who shared his extensive knowledge of all things coffee. He chatted about how to brew coffee at home, how much he loves the Clever Coffee Dripper, how to make the best iced coffee EVER, and much more! Now we're all running around the office feeling jittery and hyper-caffeinated, but at least we're HAPPY!! YAY, FRIDAY!

Just Foosin' Around

Gif_shop-1
Here at MailChimp we take our foosball very seriously. I know this because the foosball table lives in an office directly above mine. My day is peppered throughout with raucous cheers of joy and audible groans of defeat, but it doesn't really bother me. After all, chimps just wanna have fun!

Customer Support Area Makeover

(download)
As our Customer Support Team continues to grow, we thought it was high time their space get a facelift. The latest in a series of renovations are these wall murals painted by MailChimp's Creative Director, Ron Lewis. I think we've covered all the bases with portraits of NWA, Bruce Lee and Darth Vader. BOOSH!

As you can see, our compliance team means serious business. They consistently kick ass and aren't afraid to take names (or shoot nerf darts at you when you walk by). Thanks to Leif for the awesome photo capture!

MailChimp Customer Love

It's always nice when MailChimp users come by the office and we get to finally chat face-to-face! This time, however, it's a little special because Williams Castillo came all the way from Venezuela and is someone we've corresponded with online for a few years now. It's always amazing to finally be able to put a real face and personality to a 2-dimensional avatar, and it's something that truly brings us joy.

This photo was taken in our newly renovated tech support area, which is nice and open with lots of natural light.
